David, Juve-Inter again in France: the precedent and why Giuntoli hopes

The future of the striker is still to be defined: in addition to the Bianconeri and Nerazzurri there is also interest from the Premier League

On the day Jonathan David equalled Canada 's all-time goalscoring record , he may have also reminded clubs around the world what the Brooklyn -born , Ottawa-born player is capable of. The striker's 29th career goal in his 54th appearance (and what a goal) for Canada capped another great performance, also as the assist man for the temporary 1-0 in the friendly in Kansas City against the United States , won by Canada 2-1 thanks to the prowess of the Lille striker . It already seemed that the summer of Jonathan's definitive consecration was drawing to a close with the transfer from Ligue 1 to a top European club, so much so that in June president Letang , Lille's number 1, had floated the idea that the boy could say goodbye to France and settle elsewhere. And yet, despite his performances, David has not moved, also because the valuation of his contract has always been monstrous (around fifty million or so) and now he has entered the last year of his contract with Lille, ready to leave on a free transfer in the event of a failure to reach an agreement for the renewal.

David's words

A situation that cannot be completely ruled out because David , speaking to The Athletic after the victory over the USA, revealed that the negotiations are still moving forward: « At the moment we are talking to the president to evaluate the possibility of an extension. However, I don't know, we'll see how it goes ». David does not seem convinced, also because as a free agent he would have much more market among the top clubs. And in fact the attacker's speech goes further: « In the summer I stayed in Lille, I could have left yes, but it simply did not happen. There were a couple of offers and we did not close the deal, that's all. I spoke to a couple of teams, I spoke to as many coaches. But in the end it went like this ». In Canada they call him The Iceman for his coolness in front of goal, a quality that attracts not only Premier League clubs, Chelsea in the lead, but also Inter and Juventus .

Juve, David in the crosshairs

In particular, Giuntoli has been chasing him since his time at Napoli and this time, without a renewal, the deal could really be close, despite the great competition for the centre-forward. Anyone who believes that the Premier League is an irresistible attraction for David is wrong. At least, that's what the interested party lets it be understood, always to The Athletic: « What am I waiting for? I guess it's easier to say now. I'm in the last year of my contract. Eventually my contract will expire. Then we'll see. We'll see what happens next year. I'm open to any solution. I think that obviously the Premier League is considered one of the best leagues in the world. But for me it's not the Premier League or nothing: I'm open to everything and every league has its challenges » .

An encouraging message for both Marotta and Giuntoli who once again find themselves with a Lille player as a common objective, as happened in January with Tiago Djalò . And more generally the market duel between the two superpowers of our championship is renewed. And David, busy in the Italian night between today and tomorrow with Canada against Mexico, has no preclusions.
