Del Piero, Juve and the farewell: I didn't think so many people were crying for me

The former Juventus captain said goodbye after 19 years with goals, the Scudetto and a triumphal walk: the story on Sky Sport, in the "10+10 captains" format

Juventus and Alessandro Del Piero , an indissoluble pair. The former Juventus captain, in an interview with Sky Sport in the 10+10 captains format, recalled the day of his farewell on 13 May 2012 . A farewell with lots of goals, in the match against Atalanta , and with the victory of the Scudetto .

Del Piero and farewell to Juve

This is how Del Piero recalled the emotional greeting to the Stadium and to the black and white: " The fans stopped the game, for a quarter of an hour there was no reason to go on, it was their choice. They shouted my name, I greeted a couple of times, standing up. Then came the classic 'Sotto la Curva!', from there began a walk that you wouldn't believe could be so exciting, in many ways even touching.I didn't think so many people cried for me. That was an incredible year, beautiful but also dramatic from some points of view. That moment, born spontaneously, had a disruptive force on everyone, even on me, that no matter how prepared I was, I would never have been ready. Everything happened with a different naturalness. Many of those fathers have accompanied me for 19 years: with Juve we have done everything, really everything . Won the most unthinkable and beautiful things, such as the Coppoa dei Campioni or the Intercontinental, until what happened in 2006, which was a tragic year. Then after Serie B we went as far as returning to victory, on the farewell day in which we lifted the Scudetto. The lives of fans and players, when you live so much time in a team, inevitably come together. That there was the culmination, the summary, of my 19 years, in which we grew up together ".

Del Piero experienced a different but equally great emotion last April, when he returned to the Stadium for the match against Verona complete with a standing ovation.
