Nico Gonzalez recovers for Juve: starter and super goal... but Cabal wins

Argentina falls at home to Colombia but remains at the top of the standings: the Juventus winger scores the goal that temporarily equalises

On the eighth day of the South American group for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers , Argentina fell at home to Colombia, losing 2-1. The reigning champions still remain at the top of the standings with 18 points, two more than the Cafeteros. Many players who play in Serie A were present in the challenge: starting with Lautaro Martinez in attack, followed by Paredes and the Bianconero Nico Gonzalez , who scored the only goal for the Albiceleste . Lucumì , defender for Bologna, and Juan Cabal , full-back for Juventus , took to the field for Colombia in the final stages of the match . It should be noted that Nico Gonzalez, at risk of recovering in recent days after a blow to the heel suffered against Chile last week, played the entire match, returning to be available for Thiago Motta for the next matchday of the championship which will see Juve take to the field at the Castellani against Empoli.

Colombia-Argentina 2-1, the match report

The first half of the match ended with Colombia taking the lead with a goal by defender Mosquera directly from a corner kick taken by James Rodriguez. The second half opened with Argentina immediately equalising with Nico Gonzalez who took advantage of an incorrect pass from his opponents in the attacking midfield and found himself one-on-one with Vargas without missing the ball for 1-1. At the 60th minute, the Cafeteros took the lead once again with a penalty by James Rodriguez , who is increasingly a protagonist with his national team. At the end of the match, the other Juventus player Cabal also came on to replace an injured Mosquera.
