The announced collapse of the Bianconeri club, excluded from the European Cups for a year, is beginning to take shape: the scenario is bleak...
101 to 80. It's not a lowering of pressure, it's how Juventus' Uefa coefficient changes from the end of the 2022/23 season to the beginning of 2023/24. A value that will not know any other change between here and June due to the exclusion of the Bianconeri club from the European Cups.
Nothing that was not foreseen. The group stage of Champions, Europa and Conference League has not yet begun but Juve from eighth has already moved to twelfth place. The exit from the top ten of the European clubs is a simple mathematical fact: the calculation is in fact based on European performances in the last five seasons and from the calculation comes out the 2018/19 season (the year in which the Bianconeri reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League).
The overtaking of Inter, the coupling of Roma. And not only that
It is not surprising, therefore, the Interottava and Roma paired with Juve (the Nerazzurri subtract the 15 points of the Champions League 18/19, the Giallorossi 17, while the Bianconeri club totaled 21). However, the Old Lady was also surpassed in the standings by Seville and Leipzig (82 the score of the Spaniards, 83 that of the Germans), as those who take part in the group stage of the Champions League receive four bonus points. A scenario that occurred due to the 10 penalty points in the league (with the consequent exclusion from European competitions sanctioned by UEFA) inflicted on Juventus, which in addition to not accessing the revenues that the main European competition guarantees, at the end of the season will lose numerous positions in the Uefa ranking. A potential damage for future draws. And not only that.
Juve, the money that is missing and the next Champions League
Juve out of the cups for a year seemed, in a not entirely unreasonable way, the lesser evil. An exclusion also from the 2024/25 edition of the Champions League would have represented too strong an economic damage for the club's classes, since the format of the competition will change and with this also the (upward) measure of revenues for the clubs that will participate. But if you consider that Juve in the last 11 seasons has obtained revenues of 873.5 million from UEFA, with an average of almost 80 per season, you can quantify the weight of this loss of income.
The Superleague... of Fifa: the new Club World Cup
Going down in position in the ranking will certainly make the draws more complex for Juventus. But it won't be the only negative consequence. Starting in 2025, the new version of the Club World Cup will start, no longer just a tournament for those who have won the Champions League of their confederation, but a competition extended to 32 teams. A review that can only acquire value since it could represent the only real opportunity in which the aces who play in Saudi Arabia with the most famous European clubs can challenge themselves. Only 12 European teams will be able to participate in the new tournament strongly desired by Infantino and no more than two per nation: the 4 winners of the Champions League (from 2021 to 2024) and the 8 with the best Uefa ranking in the same four years. And a year without being able to accumulate points will inevitably weigh on the chances (and accounts) of Juventus.
