Every year there is excitement that builds ahead of fixture announcement day and supporters can plan for the biggest events in the Italian calendar, such as the Derby della Madonnina, when AC Milan will be desperate to avenge their Champions League exitto Inter, and we have all the key details for you here.
When will the Serie A 2023/24 season start?
Lega Serie A has confirmed that the 2023/24 season will begin on the weekend of August 19-20, one week later than the 2022/23 season. This is still an early start time for a Serie A season and it is to allow for national teams to prepare for the 2024 European Championship.
The first fixture is expected late in the evening of Saturday, August 19, with temperatures still high across the peninsula during the last weeks of the summer. Fixtures before the season’s first international break don’t tend to be played before 18:00 CEST for this reason, likely ruling out the usual kick-off slots of 12:30 CEST and 15:00 CEST.
With the 2024 Champions League final at Wembley Stadium being played on Saturday, June 1, the 2023/24 Serie A season should end on Sunday, May 26, 2024, just 13 days before national teams start facing off in Germany. This is unless another Serie A relegation playoff delays the conclusion of the campaign for a second consecutive year.
When are the 2023/24 international breaks in Serie A?
The mid-season 2022 World Cup in Qatar resulted in just one international break to disrupt the first half of the Serie A campaign last term, but in the 2023/24 season, three international breaks are back in the calendar and take place on the weekends of September 9-10, October 14-15 and November 18-19.
For the latter part of the 2023/24 season, there will be one further international break on the weekend of March 23-24, when Italian national team coach Roberto Mancini will get to have one last look at the players he hopes will help the Azzurri retain their trophy next summer.
Is there a winter break in Serie A 2023/24?
There will not be a winter break in Serie A next season and the idea of fixtures on December 26 will not be explored again. Even more matches have been squeezed into the overall season for some Serie A teams by turning the Supercoppa Italianafinal into a four-team tournament involving Napoli, Inter, Lazio and Fiorentina, who will all have their fixtures on December 30, 2023, rearranged.
One of the two losing semi-finalists is also set to play a friendly against a local side in Saudi Arabia, as part of the agreement.
There will be a full set of fixtures on Epiphany Day which is January 6, 2024.
